- Title Page Character(s): Kumi Mashiba
Summary
Kumi tells Mashiba to stop talking to Ippo so menacingly as she tries to calm Ippo down. Mashiba sees Ippo and Kumi close to each other, and claims he will calm down as well since he has something to say. Mashiba tells Ippo that he was slated for the death penalty for what he mistakenly said he was going to do to Kumi, but he is still alive because there is a compromise. Mashiba tells Ippo how ever since their parents died, he has desperately trying to look out for her, however, she is also an adult, so she no longer needs him to look after her anymore, as doing anything else is just being overprotective. Mashiba adds that he knew the time would come for him to entrust her to someone else, however, the condition for that is that the man needs to be stronger than him. Mashiba notes that he hates Ippo, but he also was defeated by him, so that is why he will compromise with him by having a discussion with him as Kumi's older brother. Mashiba claims he has two or three questions for Ippo, with the first one being for him to name five things he likes about Kumi, but he has ten seconds to give the answers. Ippo gets stressed out by the question and ends up not giving an answer in the time it took Mashiba to count to ten, causing Mashiba to tell Ippo to get out. Outside the house, Takamura, Aoki, and Kimura decides to leave as they believe nothing will happen tonight with Ippo and Kumi, but Itagaki stays, hoping to see some real development. Back inside the house, Kumi glares at Mashiba to force him to let Ippo have a second chance of answering the question. Ippo gets serious, taking off the weight straps on his wrists, and comes up with five answers of what he likes about Kumi. Mashiba gets irritated as Ippo only gave answers about her appearance, but Ippo claims it is just the lack of his vocabulary, and that it is not just about her appearance. Kumi comments to Mashiba that he is giving Ippo an unfair situation, wanting him to give Ippo something easier to answer. Mashiba decides to have Kumi ask Ippo a question, to which she asks Ippo what her favourite animal is. Ippo has trouble thinking what it could be, and answers that it is a cat. Kumi gets mad at Ippo for flunking the easy question as it is obvious that she likes dogs. Mashiba tells Ippo to get out as he has failed. Kumi yells at Mashiba asking him why does he get to decide that and questions why he is the one testing him. Kumi comments to Mashiba how he is always like this, as he made two boys at her school not talk to her after he messed with them in the past, ruining her social life, asking for him to please stop messing with her life. Ippo explains to Kumi that, from his experience with his mother, that Mashiba is doing everything for her sake, as he has dedicated a bulk of his life, time and effort for her, so he thinks that she can't blame him for that even if it might seem like he is going about it the wrong way. Mashiba agrees with Ippo, telling Kumi to apologise. As Kumi scolds Mashiba and Ippo, and Mashiba starts arguing with Ippo again, Kumi flips a table, causing a plate and mug to break a window. Itagaki thinks something big is happening inside.
