Details
- Title Page Character(s): Wally, Ippo Makunouchi
Summary
Knowing the corner is where Wally is most effective at, Ippo attacks Wally at the corner while watching him carefully. Ippo sees Wally dodging his punches left and right by by bouncing his back off the ropes to speed up his dodging. Wally escapes the corner and appears behind Ippo. Ippo throws a left jab that Wally ducks and counters, sending Ippo to the corner. Wally faces his back towards Ippo and spins while throwing a left hook. The punch lands on Ippo's Cross-Arm Block. Ippo keeps his Cross-Arm Block up as a right straight is coming, however, the punch hits at the side of the guard, breaking the guard. As Wally sends a left at the defenceless Ippo, the referee gets between them as the third round ends. Takamura tells Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki how he is surprised by Wally aiming a counter at the corner, which sometimes he sees black boxers use that kind of high level technique, but Wally is so good that he's able to mix it up even more while at that position. Takamura adds that even the audience realises Wally is a natural at boxing, as it left them speechless, and they are all thinking the same thing: Wally is going to be the world champion someday. At Ippo's corner, Ippo apologises to his seconds because he couldn't do it. Kamogawa doesn't think he should be sorry, since he saw Ippo stick his hand in the fire to reach for a chance while knowing he would get burned, and he commends him for having the courage. Kamogawa tells Ippo that Wally is just in an entirely different league, as he won't find many people who are on the same level as him in speed, instinct, technique, but to be optimistic about, they can say that they were lucky to have run into an incredible fighter. Kamogawa instructs Ippo that when Wally charges towards him, to throw compact punches, as even a genius can't attack and defend at the same time. At Wally's corner, Wally tells his seconds that his arms were stinging, but now they are fine. Miguel believes Wally will run into even sturdier opponents than Ippo later on, so this match will be a good opportunity to study on how to finish off opponents like Ippo. Miguel tells Wally to go out there and learn something. Ippo thinks Wally is incredible for someone who is seventeen and only fought in three matches. Ippo remembers when he was seventeen and had three matches as well, remembering that he was fighting Jason Ozuma at the East Japan Rookie King Tournament and was terrible at dodging, so he had to slug it out. Ippo believes now that Kamogawa wants him to trade shots with Wally. As Ippo gets up for the fourth round, he thinks that he should get ready to take Wally down with him.
