Summary
As the fourth round begins, Ippo thinks that he should do a dual exchange to hit Wally when he comes to him and to not be afraid to take a hit. As Aoki, Kimura, and Itagaki agrees with the audience's positivity towards Ippo, Takamura points out that despite no one rooting for Wally, he is still relaxed and smiling. Ippo thinks Wally is a lot better than he is and feels lucky to have run into such a great fighter, but he still desires to do everything he can. Ippo weaves his head and enters the Peek-a-Boo Style after checking his stance. Ippo charges towards Wally while weaving his head and doing feints to back Wally to the ropes. Wally uses the ropes to bounce himself up and away from Ippo and jumps away to keep a distance. Kamogawa is irritated by how impressive Wally is, thinking that he has the athletic ability to be a great contender in just about any sport. He thinks that the ropes must be like branches to Wally, while the corner post is a tree trunk, comparing him to a monkey in a jungle where there is no way to chase him down, so the ring must be like a hostile jungle to Ippo. He also thinks of how Miguel probably told Wally to test out the softness of the matt and the flexibility of the ropes after the weigh-in. Kamogawa notes how against the ultimate pairing of intellect and instinct, him and Ippo only have desperation. Ippo is unable to land a punch at the fleeing Wally, but he doesn't want to give up. Miguel, knowing that just dodging won't guaranteed a decision win after the final round, orders Wally to go from dodging to attacking by shouting "go" at him. Wally stops moving as both feet stay on the ground. Wally enters the Hitman Style and lands a Flicker Jab on Ippo's face. Ippo charges forward and gets close to Wally. Ippo gets hit before he can throw a punch that Wally dodges. Ippo and Wally throw a punch at each other's head, but Wally is the only one that gets hit as Wally moves his head to avoid Ippo's attack. Seeing that a dual exchange aimed for the head isn't possibly now, Ippo aims for a body blow in the next dual exchange. Wally hits Ippo's face with a left hook as Ippo begins throwing a left body blow.
