Summary

When Ippo gets off the phone with Sendō, he reveals Sawamura's retirement to Aoki, Kimura, Itagaki, and Fujii, who also reveals to everyone that Mashiba will be suspended from boxing for over six months and up to a year. While Kimura thinks the match was moving, he also insensitively expresses his joy that Sawamura retired and Mashiba is no longer champion, which makes Ippo upset at him. Five days later, while doing roadwork, Ippo mentions to Itagaki that he hasn't talked to Kimura since then. Itagaki tells Ippo that he can understand how Kimura feels, as every boxer looks up to the champion and wants the belt. He adds that for someone with a long career like his, he probably feels it the most, and is glad to get another chance no matter how that shot came about. Ippo claims that when he was talking about the situation, he got out of control and was impossible to talk to. Ippo asks Itagaki how he should make up with him, but Itagaki thinks Ippo should think of a way himself and states that he should be more worried about someone else who has probably been alone and depressed since the match. At the Kimura Florist, Aoki comments how terrible the atmosphere has been around the Kamogawa gym. Kimura gets mad at Aoki while admitting that it is his fault and got carried away. Aoki tells Kimura to stop being so stubborn and make up with Ippo. Kimura asks him how, but Aoki tells him to think of a way himself. Kimura's father calls Kimura outside. The father informs Kimura that due to players from his local shopping district's baseball game dropping out, spots are needed to be filled for the local Santei Japan team. Kimura decides to get Ippo, Aoki, Itagaki, and Takamura to fill the spots.
