Details
- Title Page Character(s): Ippo Makunouchi, Takeshi Sendō, Genji Kamogawa, Mamoru Takamura, Tatsuya Kimura, Masaru Aoki
Summary
Kamogawa reveals that the difference that gives Sendō the advantage in the exchange, is his larger body that can store more energy. Ippo begins to falter, and backs up, when he can no longer attack. Having no option but to block, Ippo protects himself, but begins to crumble under Sendō's pressure, as he receives more and more punches. Ippo covers his face in an attempt to not get knocked out, and takes a low stance, but Sendō takes an equally low stance and resumes his attack. As he receives the champion's devastating blows, Ippo wonders why he was looking forward to something like that. He begins to fall victim of fear as he notes that the punches are "killing" him. His waste drops after a damaging hit, but he manages to hold on to the ropes before the referee separates them and ends the second round. Both fighters make their way to their respective corners, with Ippo clearly having more damage than Sendō. Yanaoka notes that hitting the guard was not a random act, but instead a psychological tactic. As Ippo barely manages to make it back to Kamogawa, the latter asks him how badly hurt he is, to which a shocked Ippo can not respond.
