Summary
The first round end with a dominant performance from Shigeta, who causes Sendō great frustration. While Sendō states that he can not let the humiliation go lightly, Shigeta states to his second that both Ippo and Sendō have strength but nothing else. The second round begins and Sendō begins to notice the abnormal strength of Shigeta's "non-dominant arm" (which Kamogawa hinted at Ippo earlier). As Sendō falters, Shigeta goes for the finish, but is received by a body blow that sends him back before the champion attempts a one-hit knockout. Shigeta counters with a hook that causes Sendō's legs to shake and clinch for the first time. As Ippo is in the disbelief at the sight of Sendō clinching, the latter is irritated at his opponents taunts ("Is this all you've got?"). Extremely upset, Sendō wildly swings at his opponent with no success, and is cornered by the challenger (who as explained by Kamogawa, is actually a right-handed boxer who has adapted the southpaw stance), who makes a victory pose as the bell marks the end of the round. Overwhelmed by emotions, Sendō is unable to react, and slowly walks to his corner.
