Summary
Ippo dashes towards Guevara, who leans on his back foot while throwing right jabs. Sendō and Mashiba thinks that Guevara is putting weight on his back foot to get away when Ippo closes in on him, as no power punches can be thrown in that stance. Ippo has trouble getting closer as he continuously gets hit with right jabs to the face while moving forward, as Guevara moves back and throws more right jabs. When Ippo manages to get into close range, Guevara gets nervous and shoves him hard and moves back. Guevara receives a warning from the referee to not do the foul again. As the round continues, Guevara uses footwork and right jabs to keep the approaching Ippo away. Ippo's charge stops suddenly. Mashiba thinks Ippo isn't sure on what to do. Fujii claims how even though Guevara as caught off guard in the first round, he still had time to study Ippo's range and tactics, and now he is able to effectively use a variation of the method he used against other orthodox boxers. He adds that Ippo's lack of experience against Southpaws is a big factor, and he is sure the idea was to beat him using the momentum from the earlier down, making him desperate now. Sendō decides to get up and get a drink, mentioning to Fujii that it is over because he can see Ippo steaming up with fighting spirit, as he is determined. Ippo swears to himself that he will use the new Dempsey Roll.
