- Title Page Character(s): Ippo Makunouchi
Summary
Fujii notes that Ippo was doing the same training method with different raw materials resulting in different growth, as Ippo always had a sturdy lower body and great balance, the additional improvements are the result of difference in potential. Miyata then states that Ippo training his big toe resulted in Ippo being able to shift his weight faster and increased muscle made his body able to take more impact from sudden stops and starts. Miyata continues with noting Ippo can punch while shifting his pivot foot, making it harder to run and also harder to counter it, ultimately making Sawamura's Dempsey Break useless. Guevara gets up, his arms are numb from defending. The referee signals to box, Ippo makes a dash towards Guevara, who can't use his legs due to the first body blow. The pressure from Ippo makes Guevara go back into the ropes, the latter then starts throwing right jabs at Ippo making him go in and out of conscious. Ippo ducks, believing Guevara is about to throw a left straight, but the latter then clinches Ippo. While in a clinch, Guevara tries to push down Ippo, but fails to do so as Ippo feels as heavy as a boulder. Ippo then performs a liver blow while clinched, throwing Guevara off of him. Guevara clings to the rope as Ippo rushes, but then stopped by the referee as the first round is over.
