Summary
After receiving instructions from Kamogawa, Ippo is surprised that despite being so far away from the sandbag he will be testing his move on, the blow is not a straight, but a hook instead. He misses his first attempt, but the coach puts his cane as an obstacle and tells Ippo to try it again, going under the cane and closing the distance with a step in. Ippo tries the move again, avoiding the cane and delivers a powerful punch that sends the bag flying upwards. Even though he is satisfied with the results, Ippo wonders if he will actually be able to land his Gazelle Punch on Volg. Kamogawa tells him that in a match where both fighters will be close to each other, Volg will stop to rest, giving Ippo the opportunity to utilise his move. In order to have enough stamina to punch nonstop for an entire round, they begin stamina training. Meanwhile, Volg and Ramuda study Ippo's matches, with both of the concluding that even though Ippo's growth in the ring after each fight is undeniable, there is no way he can win. Volg also notices that Ippo always smiles and looks happy after each fight despite being hurt so much. He notes to himself that Ippo must really love boxing, unlike himself.
