Floyd Patterson was an American 2-time world heavyweight boxing champion. At 21, Patterson was then the youngest man to win the world heavyweight championship and, later, the first to regain it. He had a record of 55 wins 8 losses and 1 draw, with 40 wins by knockout. He won gold for the United States at the Olympic Games 1952 as an amateur middleweight.

- In Round 155, after Makunouchi Ippo finished demonstrating the Gazelle Punch, Kamogawa Genji told him that it was a finishing blow for Floyd Patterson, 2-time World Heavyweight Champion from 1956 to 1960. Aoki Masaru added that the Gazelle Punch was a hook mixed with a force of a rising body, where no one will be able to withstand it.
- Kimura Tatsuya noted that Floyd Patterson was the one who trained by Mike Tyson's trainer, Cus D'Amato. He added that since Ippo used Mike Tyson's style, it could be the best possible weapon for him.
- In Round 162, during the Makunouchi Ippo vs Alexander Volg Zangief match in the Finals at the Class A Tournament, after Ippo used the Gazelle Punch, Date Eiji remembered what it was, and explained that Floyd Patterson used it as a finishing blow.
- In Round 226, while Nekota Ginpachi demonstrated how to chop wood to Makunouchi Ippo. He shown off his back muscles from repeated chopping. He mentioned that George Foreman, Floyd Patterson, Henry Armstrong, and Muhammad Ali did it.
