Summary

While Kimura thinks it is bad luck, Ippo claims he doesn't know what will happen until it is over, and that Itagaki is winning so far. Kimura agrees he did good, and he was all determined and burning for revenge, but if the arrangements for the East Japan Rookie King Tournament were different, and Itagaki fought Imai outside the finals, which have six rounds, he would have fought him for four rounds and would obviously win. Aoki thinks the two boxers Itagaki fought did him in, wondering what kind of karma caused him to fight Imai in the finals. Ippo agrees that Itagaki would have won by a landslide decision if it ended in four rounds, and his first victory over his longtime rival would have been waiting for him, but now the only thing waiting for him is two rounds of hell. Miyata tells Takamura that Itagaki's body has likely reached his limit, so he will slowly realise he may not win, and Imai's punches will emphaise that. He adds that Itagaki's spirit will break when they happens, and will result in the match ending. At the corner, as Itagaki's spirits are down, Shinoda notices, and Itagaki receives empowering words of "Gattsu de Gattsun Gattsun da!!" ("ガッツでガッツンガッツンだ!!") from Shinoda. Itagaki responds with a pun of his own to Shinoda before leaving the corner. Before heading out for the fifth round, Imai gets encouraged by his coach to build up power and let loose, as he only needs one hit. As the fifth round begins, Imai brings Itagaki to the ropes with powerful combinations as the audience realise that Itagaki has slowed down.
