Summary
While Imae believes that Aoki is not bluffing when he said that he has present to give him in exchange for his belt, however, he tells Aoki that he will go at his own pace throughout the match and is not afraid of his apparent new technique, deeming all of his techniques as "weird" and doesn't scare him. Aoki warns Imae that he will not be able to go at his own pace since his new technique that attacks one's instinct is impossible to defend. After Aoki expresses how he will prove to Imae that he is not a clown and has done his research from his losses, Imae notes how he has earned his belt through hard work, adding that if Aoki is a researcher, then he call himself a hard worker. Outside Kōrakuen Hall, Ippo, Kimura, and Itagaki talk about Aoki and Imae's weigh-in. Kimura explains to the two how Aoki and Imae are similar, however, Itagaki points out how Aoki calls himself a researcher and has matches that make the audience laugh, while Imae calls himself a hard worker and has serious matches. The three notice Imae together with his girlfriend. Imae gets angry at his girlfriend, Sachiko, for arriving with food. He explains how it is his fault for breaking up with her, however, he did it because he loves boxing too much. Imae walks away after telling her to forget about him. After Sachiko cries and runs away, Itagaki admits that Aoki and Imae are the same as Kimura becomes surprised that there are two people with a fetish for ugly women. That night, Aoki has dinner with Tomiko at his house. After saying that she would come watch his match, Tomiko asks how Imae is. Aoki explains how he doesn't like him, however, he begins to shake from the stress and claims how Imae has learned from his losses just like him and is a hard worker. Tomiko comforts Aoki as they go to sleep. At his house, Imae becomes nervous as he admits that Aoki is a researcher and is afraid of getting hit by a Frog Punch or his new technique. However, remembering that he broke up with Sachiko to go to a path of becoming champion through solitude, Imae is determined to not lose to a clown.
