Summary
As a condition to confess, the group agrees that Ippo must beat Aoki, Kimura and Gotō (given the fact that Takamura is heavier) in arm wrestling. The gym members gather around to witness the match, and Kimura is the first to go. Knowing he can not beat Ippo, he hopes to at least tire him out so that Aoki's superior strength can finish him. His plans are useless however, as Ippo defeats him with much ease. The third man; Gotō is unable to participate due to "a nosebleed" (he is in actuality beaten by Takamura into unconsciousness), so Takamura replaces him as the opponent. Angry at the groups attempt at deceiving him, Ippo is determined not to lose, not only to avoid the confession, but to teach them a lesson. The audience starts betting money on either boxer and the match begins with Takamura having the slight advantage. In the middle of the contest, the table breaks in two, with Takamura landing on Ippo. Having lost, Ippo is given the phone and forced to call Kumi despite his wishes of the opposite, she answers and says it is her day off, so he asks her out.

- The chapter's title shares the same name with the 1987 movie Over the Top, where the main character aims to become a arm wrestling champion.
