Summary
The bear's skin has a positive effect on the audience and a particularly negative effect on the challenger's corner. As the match begins, the fearful yet determined challenger follows his plan and throws a flurry of left jabs that are easily avoided by the champion. Instead of using the opportunity to deliver a counter, Takamura simply returns with left jabs of his own that land one after the other. After seeing nothing but jabs from the champion they expected to see using his bear slaying punch, the attendants begin to demand him to utilise his right as well, otherwise he will not be able to finish the fight. However before the round ends, Takamura successfully knocks down his opponent and wins the match when the former is unable to get up before the ten count. Nekota explains to Ippo that Takamura's performance is an appeal to the world title in the way of an old proverb: "He who rules with his left, rules the world". Kamogawa is angry at the fact that Takamura tricked both him and Yagi into thinking that each other approved of the bear skin idea, but is unable to say anything to the champion after such performance. As Takamura leaves the ring, both Kamogawa and Yagi agree that he is ready to face the world rankers. After the fight, the entire group goes to celebrate at Sugar Ray.
