Details
- Techniques Introduced: Sakki
- Title Page Character(s): Ippo Makunouchi, Mamoru Takamura
Summary
After cutting the wood, Ippo and his gym mates sceptically listen to Nekota and Kamogawa's method of punching without punching. At first it appears to be nothing but normal faints, but after taking a look at some old pictures of the young Nekota and Kamogawa (which greatly surprises the group), they tell the story behind the technique: During World War II, before boxing became a popular sport, the Japanese on the verge of losing the war would watch people fighting to entertain themselves. Once Kamogawa gets in the ring, he immediately dominates Nekota, but when it seems his victory is assured, Nekota punches back utilising Sakki. This makes Kamogawa retreat and lose his first fight by knockout. After telling the story behind the feint called Sakki, the former boxers begin fighting over who has a better record (as Shinoda reveals they are tied). Meanwhile, Ippo remembers Saeki's expression when he fought Sendō. Realising it could have been Sendō's Sakki, Ippo wonders if it was just a normal feint. Takamura tells him he will not be able to understand until he sees it himself, so he decides to show him.
