As the match is about to begin, Mashiba does a throat-slit pose towards the audience. Ippo realises that it was towards him since Mashiba is looking at him for being next to Kumi. When the match begins, Mashiba takes an orthodox upright stance rather than his usual Hitman Style stance. Juan, who is also in an orthodox stance, takes it as a show of respect towards him. Mashiba sends a left jab at Juan. Juan lands a counter with an overhand.
