Sarate (サラテ, Sarate) is a cat that Ichirō Miyata found after a title defence match in an alley. He took it home, it became his pet, and he named it Sarate.
History
Part III
Second Step Arc
While wandering in the street, Sarate found Miyata sitting by a streetlight and followed to his apartment. Later, Miyata put flyers at his job in case if it is a lost pet.
Importance of the Support Role Arc
While Miyata was working at Márquez, Sarate was outside. When Ryō Mashiba left the store, he offered some of the soy milk in his hand that he bought.
Keith Dragon Arc
When Sarate was outside, he saw Mamoru Takamura climbing a street lamp in his underwear, which Takamura deemed the cat as bad luck.
Alpha and Omega Arc
Three days after Ricardo Martínez defeated Wally, Sarate encountered Wanpo and began playing with him. However, when Wanpo was about to shake paws with Sarate, Sarate threw a right counter, hitting Wanpo on the face. Sarate continued to get chased by Wanpo while attacking him until Sarate decided to leave.
King vs. Tiger Arc
At Miyata's house, Miyata held Sarate as he talked to Ippo Makunouchi on the phone about his upcoming spar with Ricardo.
Appearance
Sarate is a small kitten with black fur and round eyes. After being in Miyata's care, Sarate wears a bell and ribbon.
Personality
Sarate is quite tame.

- The name 'Sarate' could have been influenced from a real-life Mexican boxer with a similar name, Carlos Zárate Serna.
- In most places around the world, especially in Europe, the black cat is considered a symbol of bad luck and misfortune, and even worse if you cross paths with one, which Takamura referenced when he crossed paths with Sarate in the Keith Dragon Arc.
